Single direction cylindrical roller thrust bearings are designed to accommodate heavy axial and peak loads in one direction. These bearings should not be subjected to radial loading. The bearings provide a high degree of rigidity and require a small axial space. To accommodate axial loads in both directions, a double bearing can be composed of two sets of cylindrical rollers with a separator and two bearing rings with an intermediate ring.
